Some of you probably know what ORSM is, but for those of you out of the loop it’s basically a mega-playground/candy shop for all the outdoorsy techy geeks in the industry. Brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Thule, Sierra Designs, GoPro and hundreds more all converge twice a year in Salt Lake City to strut their stuff. I’m writing from the press room overlooking the show floor, and let me just tell you about a few of the things that have me really excited to try out and see in the future.
Brunton Hydrogen Reactor
This fancy little device uses, instead of solar power, hydrogen to power up devices. It’s small, lightweight, won’t cost an awful lot, and when you use up one of the hydrogen cells you can take it back to a certified dealer and have it refueled just like a propane tank. Check out this link for more details.
The American Mountain Co.
Founders Chad and Brad had a vision – to have awesome technical gear that didn’t look so, well, tech geeky. They were also disappointed at the lack of good American mountaineering brands, and so all of their products are constructed completely in the US.
While most outdoors people are romping around in KEENS, Merrells and Timberlands, that isn’t quite the style for everyone. The founder Jake noticed that while he and his friends were at ski resorts, they were are running around in their favorite skate shoes. This got him thinking that not only could shoes be versatile and technical, but they can look sexy at the same time. So Forsake was born from that process, and now that they have been successfully crowdfunded you’ll be able to order your own pair online. Be sure to look them up again later this year as they have a brand new line of low tops coming out for Spring!
